Career
Curriculum vitae
I was born in Wales of an Asian father and a Welsh mother , in 1946. The parents separated after about 3 years of marriage and I was brought up mainly in the East End of London. I had a secondary school education at Bush Elms Secondary Modern in Essex. I gained 5 'O' level GCE's amongst them Art. At the time I did not consider a career as an artist, it was considered a very competitive area, so when I left school I went through a number of jobs mainly in factories. I always enjoyed making pictures, so I have always kept my art going. I took up teacher training for a while, got married and didn't think much about art till I divorced in 1988. Once my time was my own I decided to do the one thing I had always dreamt of and found an art course.
- 1982: I returned to London ( I had been living in Devon) and found a course at what was then known as The Cass, a part of the London Polytechnic. It has since been taken over by a University. I took the course , it was new and only in its second year. The Diploma in Art and Design Studies headed by a great man Ian Robertson. It was a 4 year part-time course and I got my diploma.
- 1986: spurred on by my success I got a grant for a 3 year Fine Art course at Byam Shaw School of art, specializing in Sculpture. My personal tutor was Robin Klasnick who was quite a hard task master. The course was fun but not easy!
- 1989: I left with my Diploma in Fine Art and took a business course to try and see how best to make my living with my new skills. Living in Tower Hamlets at that time I qualified for an Enterprise course, which helped people with new businesses. Tower Hamlets had at that time an exhibition curcuit, whereby new artists could exhibit their work in various venues for free, such as libraries and community centres. That was very exciting, but no real business came of it.
- 1991: I struggled to create a business for about 2 years. I managed to break even but realised I had no real capital and business was not really my forte. I just enjoyed making art.
- 1991: I realised I would need a job if I was to survive, so after several job training ventures I got a job as a security guard. I continued to make art in my spare time with a view to finding some kind of outlet for my art work.
- 2012: This brings me up to date. I am still working as a security guard. Along the way I have sold the occasional picture or piece of sculpture. Sometimes giving pieces as gifts. Meanwhile the store of paintings and drawings is still building up. I have only made a couple of pieces of sculpture since college and I shalll eventually upload the images onto my site.
- I was talking to a friend who told me how she had started up a business on line, so I decided to follow suit. If the images sell, all well and good, if not the work is stilll being seen and people hopefully, are being entertained.
